This 2013 Gibson Les Paul Recording II pays tribute to Gibson's original design that was built between 1971 and 1979, with the added benefit of some modern adjustments to the guitar’s wiring and controls. Gibson released the Les Paul Recording in 1969 after Les Paul provided Gibson with a how-to manual of all his modifications. The Recording went on to be Les Paul’s favorite Gibson model, and he used it in concerts right up until his death in 2009. The Recording features a set of low impedance stacked humbuckers, and a myriad of tonal options and switches.

This 2013 reissue offers a slightly different control layout than the originals but is largely based on Gibson’s original design. The pickup signals route through and audio transformer for a low impedance output designed to go directly into a mixer or audio interface rather than an amplifier. There are two output jacks; the Low Z jack offers this functionality.

The "High Z" output jack is intended for use with standard guitar amplifiers. There are Single/ Double switches for coil splitting each pickup, a phase reverse switch allows for an out-of-phase tone in the middle position, there is a ground lift switch for the Low Z output, and standard three way switching between the pickups.

The guitar has been further modified to include a Piezo bridge pickup for extra versatility. The guitar’s bridge pickup tone knob has been repurposed as a master tone for both magnetic pickups, and the neck tone knob has been wired to be a volume control specifically for the piezo. Finally, an added three-position mini switch allows for a blend of both magnetic and piezo pickups in the middle position, solo piezo pickup when switched up, and solo magnetic pickups when switch down. Once you get used to it, the guitar is fabulously fun to play, and offers any amplified tone you can dream of, from crystal clean low-Z humbucking, to high-gain high impedance fat humbucking, and offers the added bonus of a clear acoustic piezo option.

The guitar is otherwise original and in lovely condition. It has had a bone compensated nut added to the front end of its nut, and the set up is easy and low. Playability is excellent, on original frets that show almost no wear.

24-3/4” scale, 1-11/16” nut width, 2-1/16” string spread at the bridge. The neck depth measures .813 at the 1st fret and 1.006” at the 12th. Neck and bridge pickup DC values are 4.2k. The guitar weighs 10.25 lbs.

One-piece mahogany body with belly contour, set-in mahogany neck with bound rosewood fretboard. Pearloid block inlays, Les Paul Custom headstock treatment, with black bindings and white/black/white purflings. Grover tuners and Bigsby tailpiece.
