2004 Martin D-28 Marquis

A bold sounding Martin D-28 Marquis with about 15 years under its belt to open-up and develop its tone. A strong guitar with excellent volume, note separation, clarity, and bigness, this D-28 is a hot flat-picker and offers tremendous headroom for a well developed right hand pick attack. It has remarkable volume and beguiling fundamental presence with just the right amount of darkness throughout its range.

Red spruce top and scalloped braces, Indian rosewood back and sides, vintage Style 28 trim, including herringbone top purflings, zig zag back strip, ivoroid bindings, diamonds and squares fingerboard inlays, and long volute on the back of the headstock. Vintage features include "30s style belly bridge with through-cut bone saddle, fossil mammoth ivory bridge pins, angle-bottomed mammoth ivory nut, vintage style tuning machines, C.F. Martin stamp on the backside of the headstock and old-style logo on the front, tortoise-celluloid bevelled pickguard, and vintage-toned top lacquer. Nut width of 1-3/4” and 2-5/16” string spread at the bridge. Modified V neck carve.

The guitar shows a little bit of playwear to its finish in the area by the bridge and pickguard, a few minor dings and dents to the body, and only a whisper of fretwear. The pickguard is particularly gorgeous – it's a modern Martin-issued Delmar D-28 "guard that we replaced under warranty (the original pepperoni guard was lifting). Set-up done here, the guitar plays perfectly with medium strings and medium action, and a full height saddle. Strap button added to the base of the heel.
