2023 Gibson Custom Shop 1936 Advanced Jumbo

Gibson’s Custom Shop Historic 1936 Advanced Jumbo pays homage to the one of the rarest and most sought-after vintage Gibson models of the 1930s. The Advanced Jumbo was offered between 1936 and about 1939, and was the company’s long scale, rosewood competitor to Martin’s D-28. They were loud and powerful slope shouldered Jumbos and remain a favourite of flatpickers 80 years on.

This 2023 CS Historic Advanced Jumbo features a thermally aged red spruce top with scalloped braces and hide glue assembly. The back and sides are straight grained Indian rosewood, just like the originals, and the finish is a VOS nitrocellulose lacquer. The neck has a long 25.4” scale length and a nut width of 1-3/4”, and the string spread at the saddle is 2-3/16”. Pearl inlays, cream bindings, through-cut bridge, and Waverly tuning machines complete the package.

This guitar is in as-new condition and has been carefully set up in our shop. It’s a 2023 build and was traded in to us by a client who fell in love with the last Banner J-45 we had in the store. He had just bought the AJ, but couldn’t keep it along with the much more expensive 1940’s Banner. (We tell you this as you might otherwise wonder why anyone would trade in such a cool and brand new Custom Shop Gibson!)

It's a great sounding guitar, with lots of power and headroom, expressive basses, and strong trebles.
