The Atkin Essential Series takes its name from the simplified appointments and tonewoods of the guitars that comprise it. The Essential D is something A-kin to a Pre-War D-18, complete with scalloped X bracing, tortoise bindings, ebony fretboard and bridge, but built with a baked Sitka spruce top rather than red spruce. The bracing on this example is red spruce, which helps impart some of that tonewood’s dryness and snap.

The Essential D is a powerful and muscular mahogany dreadnought with plenty of headroom, strong bass response, and a treble response that will make any flatpicker smile. It’s lightly built, and offers the dry, open, quick tone of an aged and well opened guitar.

This example was ordered with a lightly aged nitro finish and a shaded top. The finish is attractive, and offers a vintage look without any fake mechanical aging applied.

Fairly deep and round neck carve with a 1-3/4” nut and 1st fret depth of .885”. 25.4” scale length, 2-3/16” string spread at the saddle. Bone nut and saddle, ebony pins, Gotoh aged nickel-finish vintage style open gear tuners. Pearl logo.

With Atkin hardshell case.

We ship within Canada with various couriers and Canada Post. We’ll choose the shipping method that best suits your order and destination.

We typically ship instruments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, depending on the destination, to help reduce time in transit and avoid unnecessary weekend warehouse delays. Shipping times are not guaranteed.

For credit card payments, we can only ship to the billing address associated with the card. If you need to ship to a different address, please contact us to discuss alternate payment options. Orders paid by bank wire or eTransfer can be shipped to an alternative address.

All instruments ship fully insured and must be packed in a hard or semi-hard case.

Most orders will require a signature upon delivery. If you prefer, you may request delivery without a signature; however, Folkway Music is not responsible for loss or theft once the package has been delivered without a signature. You may also request to have your package held for pickup at a local carrier access point.
