The ES-225T was an particularly exciting guitar for Gibson upon its introduction at the NAMM show in July of 1955. Featuring a 16-1/4" wide hollow body that was only 1-3/4" deep, the ES-225T was Gibson’s first thin body design. The introduction of the ES-225 model set the stage for the rollout of the Thinline models that Gibson would launch a few years later, in 1958 and 1959.

This 1956 ES-225T is an incredibly clean mid-1950s Gibson. The original sunburst finish is remarkably well preserved, with almost no crazing in its original finish. While there are a handful of minor scratches, dents, and chips, the wear is quite minimal. The only notable blemish is a chip on the bass-side of the headstock at the low-E tuning peg, likely caused by careless use of a string winder (shame on you!) The guitar is completely original apart from replaced control knobs and tuner buttons. The tuning machines themselves are original to the guitar, and all electronics are unmodified. The tailpiece mounting bracket has been repaired and replated.

With its hot P-90 pickup in the middle position and thin hollow build, this 1957 Gibson ES-225T is a seriously good sounding guitar. Warm, fat, and clear, it heats up our shop Princeton Reverb just the right amount. The full '50s neck carve, with a first fret depth of 0.914", is nothing short of heavenly. The guitar plays well with largely unworn original frets.

Pickup DC value of 8.5K. Scale length of 24.75". First fret depth of 0.914", ninth fret depth of 1.003". Nut width of 1-11/16". Weight of 5lbs 14oz.

With hardshell case.
