1997 Gibson Super 400 CES Custom
One of two Gibson Super 400 CES we're listing this week; this example is a custom-spec'd sunburst Super 4, with Florentine cutaway. It's a stunning guitar, with an expansive 18" wide body, gorgeous pearl inlays, multilayered bindings, gorgeous celluloid pickguard, and gold hardware.
Highly figured maple back, sides, and neck; even and tightly grained Sitka spruce top, ebony fingerboard and headstock overlay. Kluson tuners, 'custom' truss rod cover, ebony bridge base with tune-o-matic top, Super 400 tailpiece. The guitar is completely original but for a swapped-out neck pickup. The original PAF-decal pickup is included with the guitar and can be re-installed at the buyer's request.
The guitar shows light use; the frets have some wear but play cleanly, and the largely clean original finish shows some chipping along the pearl and binding margins, and has been worn off of the fingerboard's binding. The back and top are without any playwear or buckle rash.
Set-up was done by Folkway; the guitar is strung with flatwound 12's and plays beautifully. The neck has a fast feel with a rounded C carve and a nut width of 1-11/16".
