1978 Gibson L-5 CES Custom

Serial # 70128066. A super clean L-5 CES in a rare wine-red finish. The first L-5 rolled off of Gibson's assembly line in 1923 under the direction of Lloyd Loar and has been in production ever since. The L-5 has experienced many changes over the years as well. It started off life as an acoustic instrument favored by big bands, had pickups added in the 50's when Rock n' Roll started to take off and was even made as a solid body for a brief time in the 70's.

This striking version comes to us from 1978 and features a rare "Wine Red" finish that will leave no bitter aftertaste as this L-5CES is pretty much as clean as you are going to find. Original everything, and in excellent condition, this model features double Humbuckers, a Venetian cutaway and a deco L5 tailpiece. The bridge sports a replaced Tune-o-Matic top, and the guitar's original ebony bridge top is in the case pocket. A few minor wear marks and some crazes in the finish are the only signs that this instrument has been around for 35 years. Perfectly set-up in our shop, the guitar has a slinky feel that all you Jazz Cats will love.
