2015 Gibson F5L Fern
Gibson's finest mandolin, the F-5L Fern pays homage to the Lloyd Loar signed Master Model F-5 built in '23 and '24. Built in exceptionally small numbers, the Nashville-made F5L features exceptional tone woods, tonebar bracing, a lush Cremona sunburst finish, triple-bound body, headstock, and pickguard, pearl nut, and gold hardware. It's a particularly gorgeous instrument, with deep flame it its maple back, sides, and neck; super-tight spruce top grain, and intricate fern headstock inlay.
The mandolin has a wonderful depth in its tone, excellent presence and projection, and a perfect "cut'. It's been set-up here at Folkway and plays as you'd want it to. The neck has a comfortably rounded V carve, 1-1/8” (or a shade larger) nut, and flat fingerboard.
At only 2 years old, this instrument shows no wear and tear other than some fret wire divots in the first position.
