1978 Gibson ES-175T

Gibson offered the fully-hollow thin body ES-175T for a short time in the late 1970's. The guitar was spec'd nearly identically to the venerable standard model ES-175, but made with a body depth of 1-13/16”. The ES-175T was built to appeal to jazz, blues, and rock players alike, and offered great versatility in its design. Throw a set of flat-wound strings on it and it's about as smooth and jazz-clubby as they come, but roundwounds and the bridge pickup are big stage ready and have a meaty, chunky cut.

This example has been set up in our shop and plays easily. Original frets show some wear but play cleanly and fast, and the guitar is unchanged but for a single replaced tuning machine and missing pickguard. There are a couple of extra pickguard mounting screw holes from a non-original guard that we removed. Original body finish is in good shape, there are areas of wear-through on the neck. The headstock's rear shows a factory second stamp, which likely had to do with a finish flaw that's long ago become blended in with the rest of the guitar's 40 year old finish. We can't find any other reason for the marking.
