1930 Gibson Gold Sparkle L-2

The Argentine Grey Gold Sparkle-bound Gibson L-2 is among the most sought-after vintage Gibson flat-top models. Built in very small numbers between 1930 and 1932, this version of the L2 model featured Mahogany back and sides, spruce top, and exceptionally light construction. This super-light build results in a guitar who's tone is remarkably open and resonant, dark, warm, expressive, and surprisingly loud. These are beguiling guitars, impossible to put down, and inspiring to play.

This example is set-up beautifully and plays cleanly and comfortably up the neck with original frets. It's top and back are crack-free but for a reglued top center-seam below the replaced bridge. The bass side of the guitar has long repaired side crack that's been attractively hidden with some well executed and aged finish repair. The balance of the instrument's finish is original and shows plenty of wear as is shown in the provided photos. There are some reglued braces and top deflection in front of the bridge.

The tuning machines are period correct replacements and nicely installed, with the evidence of an older set of larger headstock bushings well repaired. Original bone nut and period 1930's era bridge pins.

Round neck carve with modern feel, 1-3/4" width at the nut 2-3/8 string spread at the bridge. Set up with 11-52 strings, the guitar plays with a fingerstyle action with ample saddle height available for adjustment down the road.

A wonderful and rare guitar with exceptional early 1930's Gibson L-body tone.

With hardshell case.
