2002 Santa Cruz OM/PW

Dressed up like a pre-WWII Style 21 Martin and built with finely scalloped braces, the Santa Cruz OM/PW essence is steeped in vintage – from looks to tone. This example dates to 2002 and has developed into a warm, balanced, and full sounding OM.

Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce with forward positioned scalloped X bracing, ebony board and bridge, herringbone rosette and black bindings. The neck has a C carve, 1-3/4” nut, and a 1st fret depth of .835”. The scale is 25.4”, 9th fret depth is .936, and the strings spread to 2-3/16” at the bridge. Nickel Grover Sta-Tite tuners, bone nut and saddle, ebony pins, strap button in the heel, and highlander under-saddle pickup.

The guitar is crack-free and in excellent structural condition. The neck angle is good, and the original frets remain in very good shape, with fairly minimal string grooving. There are sections of delaminating finish at the top’s purflings, along the fretboard’s lower margin, and at the back of the neck around the 10th fret. The balance of the finish shows some crazing on the top, assorted dents along the body and headstock edges, but no pickwear. We’ve just set the guitar up with 12-53 strings and an action of 4-6 64ths. Playability is excellent.
