The Collings OM1-Traditional is a vintage-inspired mahogany OM that is designed to showcase the most desirable characteristics present in coveted pre-war instruments. Bracing and tone woods are adjusted for weight and thickness to create a voicing characterized by warm, rounded highs and a present low midrange, while retaining a quick attack and strong projection. It’s an exceptional sounding guitar, and a perfect evolution of Martin’s 1930s OM-18 model.
Sitka spruce top with scalloped bracing and forward-positioned X location. Mahogany back and sides, tortoise celluloid bindings with wooden purflings, small tortoise pickguard, and amber-toned lacquer finish applied thinner than Collings’ standard models. The neck has a vintage-feel to its carve, with a rounded medium-deep profile towards the nut that transitions to a soft V shape higher up. The nut is 1-3/4”, first fret depth is .820”, scale is 25.5, and string spread at the saddle is 2-5/16”.
