1933 Kalamazoo KM-11
The Gibson-made Kalamazoo KM-11 is a round-hole flat-top mandolin that was first offered in 1933, the year this instrument was built. Like other 1933 flat-tops, this early KM-11 features a small centred sunburst and solid linings. Its top is ladder braced similarly to Kalamazoo-branded flat-tops and features a firestripe pickguard to match. It’s a great looking mandolin.
In weirdly perfect condition this KM-11 is without repairs, seam separations, loose braces, or other that normally plague a ‘30s Gibson. Fretwear is slight, neck angle is fine, and the setup is excellent, ensuring surprisingly good playability. Apart from an insignificant 1” back crack and some playwear to its finish this Kalamazoo is without a significant flaw. It has a woody and pretty tone with strength through the upper midrange and fat treble string response.
Flat fingerboard, 1-1/8” nut, 13-7/8” scale. Rounded V neck carve. 100% original, including finish, frets, nut, tuners, bridge, and tailpiece.
