2004 Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis Plus
Gibson’s ES-165 Herb Ellis Plus is essentially an upgraded ES-175D with gold hardware, and figured maple body. In the case pocket are a pair of Gibson F-hole mutes that were original equipment with the model when new. It’s a wonderful Jazz guitar, with plenty of versatility, great sounding Classic ’57 Humbuckers, and a little extra in the style department.
This example is in gorgeous condition and totally original. Frets show no playwear, and the finish is perfect. Its only flaw is a small repaired crack inside the cut-away that may have been there from manufacture – It’s hard to tell.
Set up here at Folkway with flatwound 11-50 strings and slinky jazzy action. Low C neck carve with 1-11/16” nut and 24.75” scale.
