1974 Larrivée Classical
Built in his Toronto shop in 1974, this Larrivée cedar and rosewood classical has aged and mellowed into a wonderful and intimate instrument. The mid 1970s was a time of great expansion for Jean Larrivée, and many players consider the instruments made in Toronto during these years to be among the finest sounding in the company’s history. Linda Manzer, Grit Laskin, and David Wren were among the luthiers building Larrivée guitars in the Toronto years, and are significantly responsible for the quality of the instruments that were produced during that period.
The Larrivée classical presented here features a rosewood body and western red cedar top, rosewood bindings and classic Larrivée mosaic rosette. Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, 660mm scale, and 53mm nut.
The guitar is in very good condition, and shows dings, dents, and scratches typical of a 45 year old instrument, but no excessive wear. There is a minor repair near the upper bout of the top’s bass side but no other cracks or repairs. The guitar has been set up here with an action of just over 3mm to just under 4mm, and there remains no saddle height left for further lowering.
A lovely and darkly voiced classical with excellent response to a light touch.
With hardshell case
