c.1960 Del Vecchio Dinamico

Del Vecchio has been building instruments in Sao Paulo, Brazil, since the early 1900's, and their first resonators were produced in the 1930's. Were it not for this model's very famous association with Chet Atkins, North American exposure to the Del Vecchio Dinamico would likely never have occurred at the scale that it did. But thanks to Chet's frequent use of the Dinamico in the studio and on stage, the model has become nearly as synonymous with the guitar great as the Gretsch Country Gent.

The Del Veccio Dinamico is a single-cone wood-bodied resonator with a biscuit style bridge, big classical guitar neck, and a silk and steel or nylon string set-up. The guitar's body and coverplate are constructed of Brazilian rosewood plywood, and its neck is built in the traditional classical guitar style with a Spanish foot, and ebony reinforcement. The fingerboard has a slight radius, 25.4" scale, and a zero fret adjacent to the 2" wide nut.

Unlike most other Del Vecchio Dinamicos you may have encountered, this example is in excellent working order. The neck angle and neck relief are correct, and the 50 year old original fretwork is surprisingly good - particularly given the guitar's very low string action. The guitar plays in tune up the neck, and is a whole lot of fun to play with its silk and steel strings. There are a few minor fret rattles with the low action that's on it, so if you're fussy about perfect frets you might add fretwork to the math of this guitar's pricetag.

A completely original guitar with no modifications. No significant repairs or damage, although there are some finish scratches on the guitar's back that appear to have been colored with some kind of red stain. The attempt to camouflage the scratches seems to have had the opposite of the desired effect! Apart from that cosmetic flaw and the effect of its age on the guitar's thin finish, it's a very fine example of a Del Vecchio Dinamico.
