1955 White Steel
Serial # HS10251. Leo Fender introduced a budget line of student-priced amp and steel sets under the brand 'White' in honor of his long-time associate Forrest White. These were produced in 1955 and 1962, and in smallish quantities -- so they aren't terribly common on the vintage market, and not too many folks have ever encountered a White amp or steel.
The steel is very similar to Fender's Studio Deluxe steel, complete with screw-in legs. But a close look will show that almost every part is just a little different than the Fender equivalent. The metal stampings and body contours are both slightly different than on the Fender, and the knobs have a vertical knurling that is unique to the white brand. The tuners, pickup, circuitry, and bridge assembly are stock Fender though, so the White will sound every bit as good as a Studio Deluxe.
This example is completely original, but has had its tuner buttons replaced with accurate replicas. Set-up in shop, it plays evenly and cleanly; and it's a very fine sounding instrument. Cosmetic condition is excellent. This guitar was featured in Fender: The Golden Age, 1946-1970, by Kelly, Kelly, and Foster; page 20.
With original hardshell case and legs.
