1948 D'Angelico Excel

A beguiling guitar, this Excel has the tone that a 17” D'Angelico is famous for. Beautifully warm and expressive mids, incredible sustain, strong fundamental with a lovely compliment of comfortably restrained overtones, and round and balanced treble response. It's a remarkable solo guitar, and has enough power under the hood to hold its own in an ensemble setting as well.

The guitar is in very fine condition, and is original with the exception a nicely made reproduction pickguard. Original finish throughout, no cracks or repairs, no binding issues, and an excellent neck angle. Neck and original frets are true, original Grover imperial tuners are in excellent working order.

17” body of highly figured maple and bearclaw-spruce, multi-layer purflings and bound F holes, original ebony bridge and gold plated tailpiece, pearl inlays throughout. Natural lacquer finish, strap button in side by neck heel, neck-mounted pickup removed long ago, non-functional output jack remains in the side.

Comfortably round neck carve with 1-11/16” nut, 24.9” scale.

With original Lifton hardshell case.
