2015 Santa Cruz Otis Taylor Chicago Custom
With its extra-deep body, 13 fret neck joint and light construction, the Santa Cruz Otis Taylor is something of a tribute to the Gibson Nick Lucas models built in the very early 1930's. But with its all-mahogany construction and modern build the Santa Cruz offers players something a little different in tone.
This Otis Taylor Chicago was originally sold through Folkway and was custom ordered with a fully fretted fingerboard and without inlays in the extension. Additionally, we designed it with a 1-3/4" nut and a bridge pin spacing of 2-5/16, for a more-vintage feel. It's otherwise a standard model, complete with backlit tortoise-celluloid bindings, sunburst finish, 25.4" scale, and pyramid bridge.
The instrument is dark, warm, and woody. It has a touch of sparkle thanks to the mahogany top, and an even and balanced response. It's and old-soul of a guitar, with many of the tonal hallmarks we love to hear in an all-mahogany vintage guitar.
The neck has a rounded-off shape with a full feel. There's a hint of softened V felt in the first position, but the over-all impression is that of round, rather than V carve.
It's in near-mint condition with unworn frets and almost flawless finish. Freshly set-up by us, too.
