1982 Linda Manzer

Linda Manzer's illustrious career in luthiery began in the mid 1970's with her apprenticeship under Jean Larriv̩e, alongside Grit Laskin and David Wren, among others. In the early 1980's she studied archtop construction with Jimmy D'Aquisto; and in 1982 built a flat-top acoustic for Jazz guitar legend Pat Methany Рthe first of many instruments in a collaboration that continues, some 35 years on. Bruce Cockburn, Paul Simon, Stephen Fearing, Tony McManus, and numerous other highly regarded guitarists are Manzer players, but it was Pat Metheny's 1982 Manzer 6 string that started everything. Presented here is another Manzer 6 string built that same year.

A beautiful guitar, this Manzer features Linda's classic multi layered pearl rosette, graceful venetian cut away, and intricate headstock inlay detail. Back and sides are Indian rosewood, the top is spruce, and the body is bound in rosewood with fine purflings. Gloss finish throughout, mahogany neck, ebony bridge and fingerboard.

The neck features a full carve with a rounded feel and a nutwidth of 1-23/32”. 2-1/8” string spread at the bridge, and 25.6” scale length.

In excellent condition, the guitar is without cracks or internal repairs. It has recently been through the Manzer shop for some maintenance and features new frets and set-up. It plays like a brand new Manzer, but has the tonal benefits of 35 years of life.

Linda Manzer is one of the luthiers of the Group of Seven Guitar Project hosted by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Learn more about this incredible exhibition HERE.
