2011 Martin Custom Shop D-28 Madagascar
A meticulously designed and crafted Pre-1938 D-28 by Martin's Custom Shop. This guitar is very much akin to a D-28 Authentic 1937, but for a pickguard overtop of its finish, and non-torrefied woods.
Back and sides of Madagascar rosewood, Adirondack spruce top with forward-shifted and scalloped braces, hide glue construction, T-bar neck support, GE/Authentic neck carve with softened V profile, 1-3/4” nut, 2-5/16” string spread at the bridge, long volute, and 30's shaped heel. Slotted diamond fingerboard inlays, fossil ivory angled-bottom nut and bridge pins, vintage-style open-geared nickel tuners, and CF Martin stamp on the headstock's back-side.
A bold and powerful dreadnought with seemingly endless headroom, well developed mids and highs, and classic forward-shifted bass. An excellent flat-picker, and a perfect choice for any situation that calls for a loud guitar.
The guitar has been played and shows scratches, dents, and some wear to its first-position frets. The very tip of the pickguard has chipped away. Structurally it's in excellent condition, with no cracks or damage. Set-up here at Folkway with a new bone saddle, medium strings and flat-picking action.
