2011 Martin Custom Shop D-18 12 fret

Serial # 1548378. One of a very limited run of 75 CS-D18-12 guitars that were built in 2011-12. The 12 fret Dreadnought features back and sides of sinker Mahogany from Belize and an Adirondack red spruce top. Hide glue construction, scalloped red spruce bracing, gloss thin-finish lacquer, and a pyramid bridge with long saddle. The guitar's trimmings are styled after a 1929 Ditson model 111 that's in the Martin Guitar Museum.

1-3/4" width at the nut, 2-5/16" spread at the bridge, hand-carved rounded neck, fossil ivory nut and saddle, Waverly tuning machines. Madagascar rosewood bindings and headstock overlay, ebony fingerboard and bridge.

The guitar has a wonderfully rich and big voice, but like most lightly built 12 fretters, has a strong fundamental that's well supported by a colourful compliment of overtones. The guitar is a remarkably good fingerstyle choice, but also an explosive flat-picker.

In excellent condition, the guitar shows very light finish markings where the pickguard would otherwise go, and a few very light and small scratches here and there. Set-up by us, it plays beautifully.
