1956 Martin D-28
With its pure and focused fundamental, clean, dry tone, big headroom and horsepower this mid 1950's D-28 is a stellar flatpicker. Straight-braced 50's Martins are known for their power, projection, and cut, and many bluegrass players opt for this era of D28 for ensemble playing and studio work. A real fun guitar to pick.
Gorgeous Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Sitka top, ebony fingerboard and bridge. Checkerboard backstrip, 50's style 28 top trim and rosette. Kluson waffle-back tuners, cut-through bridge saddle, original nut and bridge pins.
The guitar has had its neck reset and frets replaced fairly recently and plays just perfectly with a 5-6 64th action and medium strings. There is finish repair around the bridge and localised touchup on the top. A few repaired top cracks below the bridge and a repaired pickguard-caused crack extending north of the guard's treble side. One invisibly small repaired back cracks. The guitar looks amazing and presents very well. The lacquer repairs are hard to distinguish in normal light.
1-11/16” nutwidth, 25.4” scale, 2-1/8” string spread at the bridge. Full height bridge and saddle. No fretwear, excellent set-up and playability.
