1930 Martin 00-40H

A near-flawless Martin 00-40H converted to Spanish by TJ Thompson. Among the finest prewar Martins we've ever made available, this 00-40H is almost without repairs or issues of any kind. Apart from the modifications involved in converting the guitar from its original Hawaiian, it is a completely original guitar and in excellent condition. TJ Thompson's conversion is perfectly executed, complete with new full height bar frets, reset neck and aged reproduction compensated bridge. Thompson's reputation is famously well earned, and he is widely considered to be the world's preeminent restorer of Martin guitars.

A phenomenally responsive instrument, this 00-40H offers its entire tonal spectrum under a light fingerstyle touch. It's subtle and nuanced, clear, dry, and expressive, and one of the most evenly balanced guitars you'll encounter. It performs beautifully with a controlled flat-pick as well, favouring melodic single-note work over strumming, but the guitar is specifically set up with a low fingerstyle action that rewards a light attack. Cavernous sustain, beguiling dark openness, and the light touch and reactive feel of tall bar frets combine to make this one of the most rewarding rosewood Martins we've played.

Perfectly quartersawn rosewood back and sides matched with a very tightly grained red spruce top; abalone pearl top border and rosette, with wooden purflings and celluloid bindings. Style 45 back strip, boxed celluloid endgraft, hand-cut abalone fingerboard inlays, and engraved Waverly tuning machines. 12 frets to the body, 24.9” scale, 1-7/8” nut and 2-3/8” string spread at the bridge. Softened V rounded neck carve.

Original unaltered finish throughout, no playwear of any significance, and no major dings, scratches or dents. All braces are perfectly glued with factory glue, the original bridge plate is beautifully unworn, and the guitar is completely crack free but for a single 1” long side crack that's been perfectly glued. The guitar is set up with Martin light Monels and a string action of 4 to 5 64ths at the 12th fret.
