1923 Gibson MB-3 Banjolin
FON 11958. The Loar-period Gibson mandolin banjos feature a small 9" diameter head that's perfectly sized for this kind of instrument. With the smallish head, the neck has more frets available before the body joint, and the instrument's voice is tight, percussive, clear, and balanced. This example is in excellent condition, and plays very cleanly with thanks to set-up work done in our shop.
A completely original instrument, the MB-3 is build with a trap-door style resonator, and features a �" rim fitted with a �" hollow tube tone ring. The brackets are anchored by a mounting ring that fits snuggly up against a lip that's turned into the side of the rim. It's an excellent system, and results in a very fine tone.
Maple neck and rim, ebony fingerboard and bridge, arrowhead Waverly tuning machines, and The Gibson headstock logo in pearl. Engraved Gibson tailpiece, nickel hardware throughout, and 20 mounting brackets. 1-3/32" nut width, 13-7/8" scale. First 5 frets very professionally replaced.
