1948 Gibson LG-2

No FON. A particularly attractive late 40's LG-2, with its weathered reddish-brown sunburst finish, small pickguard and bridge, and played-in look. The guitar has a lot vibe, great neck feel, and a warmed-up / opened up / well rounded tone. Very scalloped-braced, very Gibson, and quite beguiling. As compared to other LG-2s from this era, this particular example has less punch and more smoothness across the frequency range, and has lovely expression.

The guitar has had a few top cracks repaired and brace ends glued; some by us, some prior to Folkway. Its frets have been replaced in the not-too-distant-past, and an LR Baggs Lyric pickup has been installed. The instrument's finish is completely original and well aged, but isn't overly worn. There is playwear to the soundhole, and various scratches, dings and dents are found all over the body and neck. Replacement repro tuners, aged saddle, and ebony bridge pins. Original nut, bridge, bridgeplate.

One-piece solid mahogany back (left over from Banner-era production), spruce top, single-ply binding, tortoise-celluloid pickguard. Modern Gibson logo, 1-11/16" nut width; round neck, 24.75" scale.

A very appealing vintage Gibson LG-2 from one of the best post-war eras.
