1945 Gibson "Banner" LG-2

FON Illegible. A wonderful sounding late 'Banner' LG-2 with quintessential Wartime Gibson tone. A very strong guitar, with the aggressive midrange punch we hear in a good Banner model, excellent sustain, ring, and overtones, powerful basses and trebles, and a lively and quick attack. Despite its build similarities with the later post-war LG-2s the maple-necked banner models offer much more volume, clarity, and headroom. This is an exceptional sounding guitar.

This example features a 4-piece red spruce top, three-piece maple neck without truss rod, unmatched mahogany back and sides, and bean-wood fingerboard and bridge; a combination typical of the late wartime era. The neck has a very comfortable and manageable carve, with a 1-11/16" wide nut, deep, round profile and strings that taper to 2-3/16" at the bridge.

The guitar has had its neck reset, bridge and plate replaced, and braces glued through Eric Schoenberg's shop. Various top and back seam separations were glued at that time as well, and finish chips on the back of the neck were touched up. The repair-work is well done; and final set-up was just completed here at Folkway. Playability is excellent, with original frets that show only light wear.
