1944 Gibson Banner J-45 Maple

Suffice to say, this might very well be the most desirable, collectable, and incredible Banner-era Gibson J-45s on the planet. This mint-condition, unplayed 1944 Banner J-45 was recently acquired from the family of the guitar's original owner. The guitar was purchased in 1944 and has never been further than 100 miles from the shop. And, considering that the guitar has never been humidified or otherwise babied through 73 Canadian winters, its outstanding condition is that much more unbelievable.

Folkway's Mark Stutman has just completed the guitar's neck reset with masterful skill. He set the neck angle to the guitar's original unmodified and full height saddle, and did unbelievable clean work to this mint-condition J-45. Beyond that, the only other work he did was to adjust the nut for better playability. There were no loose braces to glue, no fretwork to do, and no cracks to repair. There wasn't even dust to vacuum from inside the guitar's body! Take a good long look at the photos we've provided here. The guitar is as clean as it looks, both inside and out.

Banner headstock logo, figured maple back and sides, two-piece Red spruce top, 5-piece maple neck with truss-rod and beanwood fingerboard. Original everything, including finish, tuners and buttons, nut and saddle, and pins. Original rope strap and chipboard case, too.

The guitar has a big and clear voice, huge headroom and volume, definition through the mids and lows, and robust highs. All that in a guitar that's essentially never been played. We can only imagine how good this one will sound after a few months of playing.

This Banner J-45 is among the finest examples in existence. The fact that it is a maple and 2-piece Red spruce version adds tremendously to our excitement about this guitar.

With original case.
