1924 Gibson A Snakehead
An exceptional sounding Loar-era snakehead Gibson A Mandolin that's in remarkable original condition and beautifully set-up. Spruce and maple body with black top finish and ivoroid ring rosette, white top binding and dark brown body and neck. Ebony fingerboard and adjustable bridge, truss-rod in the neck, original tailpiece and pickguard, bone nut and Waverly tuners.
The instrument is in remarkable condition and is virtually repair-free. There's a tiny crack at the bottom edge of the back that we've reglued, but nothing else to report. The bass-side tuner set didn't match the treble, and although it looks like we can thank Gibson c. 1924 for that, we've found a correct match in our stash of parts. The photos were taken prior and show the original, which will be included.
Very open sounding, warm and expressive, and more volume and cut than earlier birch A models.
1-1/8” nut, flat fingerboard with original frets, very little fretwear or playwear.
