Alan Beardsell is one of the more revolutionary instrument builders in the pantheon of Canada’s highly regarded luthiers. His guitars don’t follow the blueprints laid out by Martin or Gibson in the 1930’s, and he has developed a deep style of his own that is itself timeless and iconic. Now located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Beardsell began his career working the repair department at Toronto’s Songbird Music and steeped himself on the inner workings of the great vintage guitars that once passed through that shop.

The electric offered here was built while Beardsell was still living in Toronto, and although dissimilar to his contemporary instruments, shows the hallmarks of his approach. The guitar’s body is built from a chambered and hollowed mahogany back with a braced and carved figured maple top. The instrument has an incredible acoustic resonance that translates through its pickups similarly to what a Gretsch Duo-Jet does. The neck is carved with Beardsell’s famous asymmetrical barrel; the bass side is of a V neck and the treble is round. It’s a very comfortable feel, and supports the left hand perfectly.

The guitar is fitted with three Rio Grande P-90 pickups and an acoustic piezo element under the bridge saddle. The acoustic and electric circuits each have their own electrosocket output jack for true A/B operation.

The neck has a fast feel, 1-5/8” strat-like nut width, and a scale of 25”. We have the guitar set up with 11-49 strings and a real comfortable electric action. It’s a super-fun guitar to play, with a springy and responsive feel. The Bigsby action is smooth and soft, which adds to the fun.

In very fine condition with just some light wear to the frets and a few dings here and there.

With gigbag
