1959 Gretsch 6120
Brought to Folkway by the wife of its original owner, this 1959 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins might be the finest of its kind currently available. The guitar has been meticulously cared for throughout its life and remains in stunning condition with excellent playability. It has forever been stored in its original white "cowboy' case, and its original western strap is kept right where it has always been stored for the better part of 60 years, in the case pocket.
A completely original guitar, this Gretsch 6120 hasn't seen any modifications other than its pickup rings replaced. The originals, with their cracked corners, are in the case pocket. Everything else on the guitar is factory stock – from the frets to the strap buttons. The finish shows very little wear, the frets are barely indented, the fingerboard is without divots, and the electronics work flawlessly. There is no evidence of even the start of binding rot, the neck angle is perfect, and no repairs have been made to any solder, and the gold-plating is in excellent shape on the tuners.
A late 1959 manufactured guitar (or a 1960 model year guitar if you'd prefer), this 6120 features lighter trestle bracing and a 2.5” body depth, a V-notch Gretsch Bigsby B6, PAF Filter'tron pickups, bar bridge, thumbnail inlays, zero fret, and some very pretty figured maple.
The guitar has got everything going on. From the most incredible Filter'tron 6120 tone and amazing looks, to collector-grade condition, pedigree, and originality. The set-up is excellent, the neck angle is perfect, and the neck feel is heavenly. That fabulous strap is just a serious bonus.
