2014 Gibson Custom Shop CF-100E Tamio Okuda Reissue
Gibson's CF-100 was introduced in 1950 and has the distinction of being the world's first cut-away flat-top acoustic guitar in production. The P-90 equipped CF-100E followed a year later, and was the very first cut-away/pickup equipped flat top. Today, these models have a cult-like following and are revered by many highly regarded players the world over.
One of those CF-100E players is Tamio Okuda – one of Japan's most highly regarded musicians and producers. Gibson, in conjunction with Tamio, created this signature CF-100e for the Japanese market a few years back. It's a very lightly built guitar and features a super-thin lacquer finish with "Faded Cherry' (aka orange) top. Like the originals, the reissue is fitted with a hot P-90 pickup and top-mounted volume and tone controls, and it sounds big and fat plugged in to a low wattage tube amp. Unplugged, the guitar's light build and X braced top offer up classic LG-2 tone, with a lot of mid range punch and presence, rounded highs, and a succinct, but fairly robust bass response.
This example is in mint condition and is perfectly set up. The guitar shows no signs of use, and is without any fretwear or finish scratching.
Spruce and mahogany body with Florentine cut-away, white bindings, and P-90 pickup. Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, mahogany neck with round carve 1-11/16” nut width and 24.75” scale.
