1999 Collings DS2H
Serial # 5264. A gently used late 1990's 12 fret Collings DS2H built with Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood. Herringbone purflings, zigzag backstrip, and ivoroid trimmings; tortoise-sell celluloid pickguard and Waverly tuning machines. Ebony fingerboard, bridge, and pins, bone nut and saddle. Scalloped Sitka braces, slotted headstock, and gloss lacquer finish.
No cracks, repairs, or other issues, and a fresh set-up by our shop. Under close inspection the fingerboard shows light scratches alongside a number of the frets thanks to the previous owner's over-zealous fretboard cleaning. That's about the only flaw this DS2H shows, apart from a short, somewhat deep scratch on the back's lower bass bout. The guitar has had some time to open up, warm-up, and develop, and it sings with a very powerful and wide open voice. This is a big guitar -- in every sense of the word.
Soft V neck carve, 25.4" scale, 1-13/16" nut width. Almost no fretwear, excellent neck angle and playability.
