Taylor 614ce

The 2015 NAMM show saw the introduction of the completely redesigned 600 series by Taylor. The new maple flagship features a full Andy Powers rethink, similar to the direction the company took with the 800 series a year earlier.

The new 600 series guitars feature torrefied spruce tops and maple back and sides, a completely redrawn bracing, protein-based glued construction, and super-thin finish. The maple back and sides are carefully hand stained a deep and rich brown, and the guitar's trimmings are lavishly understated. The pickguard is open-pore rosewood, and the only pearl on the guitar is in the rosette. The classy flourish on the back-side of the headstock is grained celluloid, along with the fingerboard and headstock inlays, which are an attractive touch.

The guitar features the ES2 pickup system for a more natural plugged-in sound, nickel Taylor tuners, and the classic Taylor neck with 1-3/4" nut width and 25.4" scale.

The 614ce is a dark and open sounding guitar, with a noticeable increase in bass-end presence versus the previous version of this model. There is lots of warmth through the mids, and the trebles have a lovely fulness.
