Martin HD-28E Retro
The new Martin Retro Series HD-28E features a very traditionally built, vintage-inspired D-28 body, a contemporary neck profile, and some of the most sophisticated acoustic amplification technology ever designed. The result is a very modern, but entirely vintage-flavored guitar that will appeal to everyone who's ever wanted to 'plug in' their old D-28, but wasn't happy with their options.
Employing a collection of the world's most desirable and iconic vintage microphones, some of the finest pre-war Dreadnoughts in the Martin museum were recorded to provide the foundation for the Onboard Aura's plugged-in sound. The results are nothing short of miraculous, and bring traditional vintage acoustic tone to the stage setting - without the hassles and feedback associated with playing in front of a microphone.
The instrument is built with vintage in mind, from start to finish. The Sitka top features forward shifted, scalloped bracing and a small maple bridge plate; trimmings and finish are vintage spec, with a toned top, beveled-edge tortoise pickguard, old-style headstock logo and open geared tuners, ivoroid bindings, herringbone purfling, and zig-zag back strip. The neck features Martin's new High Performance carve, with an oval shape and a 1-3/4" nut; the wide neck is a nice feature on a vintage-inspired Dreadnought.
With the HD-28E Retro, finally there's a pickup equipped vintage-style non-cut-away Dreadnought that actually sounds good when plugged in. We tip our hats to Martin and Fishman for their efforts.
