2003 Santa Cruz Vintage Mahogany D

Serial # 4155. Easily the lightest Dreadnought we've ever encountered, this Santa Cruz Guitar Co. mahogany and German spruce flatpicker tips the scales at a scant 3.75 Lbs. When a guitar is this kind of light, it can't do much BUT sound good!

Built with vintage tone in mind, the guitar features a very lightly built top with a tapered X brace and scalloped tone bars. The X is located about 1.5" from the soundhole, which helps maintain power -- you don't need to forward shift the braces on a guitar this light, there's enough bass response to make pretty much anyone real happy. It's opened up tremendously well, and has a complex and expressive voice with lovely overtones and musicality. It's not a hit-it-as-hard-as-you-can machine, but prefers subtely and dynamics.

Round neck, 1-11/16" nut, 25.4" scale, 2-3/16" string spread at the bridge. Tortoiseshell bindings and beveled edge pickguard, bone nut and compensated saddle, ebony fingerboard, bridge, and pins, figured rosewood headstock overlay, pearl logo, and Waverly tuning machines. No cracks or repairs, finish is clean with only a few small dings, and set-up was done in our shop. The guitar plays beautifully.
