2015 Taylor Folkway Custom

Back in 2014 Folkway's Mark Stutman designed a Taylor model that was to become known as the "Folkway Custom'.  It featured many design elements of Taylor's GA8 (AKA 814) but with a cedar top, short-scale neck, bone nut and saddle, and outfitted with a unique Taylor Folkway Custom label.  The plan was to start with a half dozen instruments and continue with regular production as they sold through.  But late in 2014 the Canadian Dollar lost 25% of its value, and the Folkway Custom project was shelved indefinitely due to a retail price that ended up being significantly higher than originally anticipated.  A shame, really, because these first - and only - Taylor Folkway Customs were exceptionally good sounding guitars that were nearly universal favourites of our clientele when they were available.

This is the only used Folkway Custom we've ever had come back to the store for resale.

It's in near-perfect condition, is beautifully set up, and has had a K&K Pure Mini installed (by us, a few years back). The guitar has opened up a lot and is truly a remarkable sounding instrument. The combination of Taylor's Grand Auditorium Body, western red cedar top with CV X bracing, rosewood back and sides, short 24-7/8” scale neck, and bone nut and saddle make for an exceptional guitar.  It's a fingerstyle dream, with amazing balance, strong trebles, great fundamental clarity, and a lot of presence through the midrange.

With its unique label and history, outstanding tone, and classic Taylor playing ease, this Folkway Custom gets the highest of marks from us.
