2010 Yanuziello Mariposa Flat-top

It's a rare treat to have a Yanuziello acoustic for offer in the shop. It's no secret that Joe Yanuziello is among Folkway's favorite builders the world over, but it's also no secret that his acoustics are fabulously hard to come by. Joe builds stringed instruments of all kinds -- Weissenborn-style Hawaiians, Dobro-style resonators, lap steels, flat-top and arch-top acoustics, electric mandolins, mandolas, and octave mandolins; but, most of his output is of his unique hollow solidbody electrics.

Yanuziello is an amazingly gifted builder -- he combines unmatched workmanship with tasteful, stylish, and unique design, but never forgets that tone and feel are paramount. His guitars are lightly built in the style of 30's Martins, and have the most immediately comfortable necks this side of 1934.

This 2010 Mariposa flat top is a perfect example of what we're waxing poetic about here. The guitar is breathtaking. From its graceful 00-sized body outline, richly hued, stunning sunburst-finished top, tastefully refined pearl, maple, and ebony rosette and ivoroid-bound soundhole, to its beautifully proportioned slotted headstock and bound overlay, recessed truss-rod cover, and simple pearl fingerboard inlays -- there's really no aspect of this guitar's build that hasn't been touched by the master, so to speak.

And that's just the cosmetic detail. The guitar features a very light build, with finely scalloped top braces, 1930's sized maple bridge plate, and a Red spruce top. Back and sides are Indian rosewood, and the neck scale is 24.9". The guitar has the openness, complexity, and maturity of a much older guitar. It has a strong bass response that belies its smaller body shape, and a woody resonant mid-range that put a smile all of our faces here…

The guitar's neck has a markedly mid-1930's Martin feel to its carve; with a very soft V and no-too-chunky girth. Nut width is 1-3/4".

In near-mint condition, the guitar is perfect in every detail. Set-up by us.
