2006 Judy Threet A Custom

Serial # A06.3-62. It's always a treat for us to have one of Judy Threet's guitars in the shop. This Alberta-based luthier is among the finest craftspeople in her profession, who's attention to detail is rivaled only by the sound quality she realizes from her creations.

This custom-built A model features back and sides of figured Australian Blackwood, an Englemann spruce top, flamed maple bidings with green purflings, spalted maple backstripe and heelcap, figured Koa rosette and gold Gottoh tuners. The instrument's fingerboard and headstock feature Judy's "Hippo in Reeds" inlay work, with numerous types of pearl and wood species carefully arranged. The Hippo's body is a neat arrangement of at least 15 pieces of meticulously cut black pearl; while the truss-rod cover is perfectly camouflaged in the reeds.

Measuring in at a scant 13-3/4" at it's widest point, the instrument is small by most anyone's gauge. It is a very comfortable and compact guitar, but one whose volume and sonic complexity isn't hampered by smallness. The guitar is very lightly and finely made, and has a surprising warmth and bass response. It is, by default, a fingerstyle guitar, but feel free to dig in and reward yourself with the instrument's positively lovely tone.

Round, modern feeling neck with 1-3/4" nut, 24.9" scale, and oil-finish. The headstock rear and neck heel are finished in gloss lacquer to match the rest of the instrument. Bone nut and saddle, water buffalo bridge pins.

In excellent condition, crack and repair free, and well set up.

With deluxe hard shell case
