2001 Oskar Graf C-Model Brazilian
There are very few builders who have mastered every aspect of acoustic guitar construction as aptly as Oskar Graf. His instruments are crafted to the absolute peak of luthierie perfection -- there isn't a detail spared or left less than impossibly flawless. But beyond that, if imaginable, is Graf's ability to distill every bit of tone from the wood he's chosen, and have it at the ready for your first chord and beyond. His instruments are of the highest order, and it's always a treat for us to have one of his flat top acoustics in the store for yours and our enjoyment.
This C-Model is sized similarly to a classical guitar, but proportioned with steel string sensibilities. The body measures 14.5" wide at the lower bout, and is 4" deep at the endpin. It is constructed of aged Brazilian rosewood and German spruce of the highest caliber -- perfectly quarter-sawn, evenly grained, and beautifully colored. Curly maple body bindings highlight the guitar's perfectly mitered purflings, and half-herringbone marquetry borders the top and forms the inner and outer rings of the soundhole rosette. The back-strip is a colorful hound's tooth inlay, tastefully ended by rosewood at its top and bottom, and the center ring of the top's rosette is a finely made classical guitar style mosaic. The guitar features a graceful and beautifully stylized pyramid bridge, a bound ebony fingerboard with perfectly hand-cut abalone pearl inlays, and a bound Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay with pearl and abalone torch inlay. Waverly tuning machines, a fluted and polished bone nut, compensated saddle, and fancy ebony bridge pins finish off the guitar with an extra touch of class.
The guitar plays effortlessly. It has a round 12 fret neck of medium thickness and nut width of 1-13/16", a scale length of 25", and a string spacing of 2-5/32" at the bridge. It is set up with .012" to .056" strings, and medium action.
Oskar Graf's guitars are famous for their strong, balanced, and complex tone. This C-Model has incredible sustain, full, bold, and defined trebles, and an expressive mid-range. It handles a hard right hand attack, and is every bit as fine a flat-picker as it is a fingerstyle instrument.
