1938 Harmony Harmolin 7 String

Built by Harmony in 1938, the Hawaiian Harmolin features a unique string bending mechanism that allows the player to affect the pitch of the 3rd and 4th strings by way of a pair of knee-levers. Essentially a 7 string acoustic pedal steel with a pair of knee-levers and no pedals, the Harmolin is something of a hybrid of a steel and a B-bender. It's actually a very cool thing, and we've spent the time to get this one into good working order.

We've set the guitar up with an A6 tuning. The 3rd string knee lever flattens the note by as much as a whole tone, and the 4th string lever raises the pitch of the string by a semi-tone. It's all quite adjustable, and the guitar can be set up with whatever tuning a player wants, and semi-tone or whole tone bends on both mechanisms.

The guitar is a built of spruce and mahogany and features ladder-bracing, a target-sunburst finish, and bound top and back. Square neck, with flush-ground frets, bone nut, and unique 7 string slotted headstock. The tuner set is made up of matching 3 on a plate guitar tuners (bass side) and 4 on a plate mando tuners (treble side).

In excellent condition, the guitar is very functional and sounds remarkably good. There's a small side crack that's cleanly repaired, and another minor crack on the back. Beyond that, it's one of the more unique instruments we've listed over the years, and a whole lot more than a curiosity.
