1958 Martin 00-17

Serial # 164696. A dark voiced, thick and woody sounding all-mahogany double O, with round full trebles, excellent fundamental response, and an a rich and open midrange. It's easily the best sounding 1950's Style 17 Martin we can remember, and simply a joy to play.

Solid South American mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, no bindings or trimmings other than the ivoroid position markers, white plastic tuner buttons, bridge pins, and end pin, and C.F. Martin & Co. headstock logo. Completely original but for a newer bone saddle.

No top or back repairs of any kind, and all braces are tightly glued. There is a cleanly repaired side crack on the upper bass side, and the neck's wood has a lengthwise crack below the fingerboard from the nut to the 2nd fret, bass side. Both of these cracks were repaired cleanly and strongly in our shop and pose little further concern. The bridge is shaved slightly, which allows the guitar to play beautifully without ever having had a neck reset. The guitar's action is set at 5 to 7 64ths.
