2004 Martin J-41 Special
Serial 1009174. With its 16" wide curvy body and vintage appointments, this is the Vintage series guitar that never existed! The Jumbo body size is a fairly recent addition the Martin lineup, and the "Special" in the guitar's name refers to the Vintage series treatment applied to the instrument. It's a regal guitar, with pearl, gold, and ivoroid accents, and sounds tremendously to match.
Indian rosewood back and sides are mated to a Sitka spruce top with forward shifted scalloped braces. Pearl top inlays around the body and rosette, Style 45 pearl fingerboard inlays and headstock ornamentation. Ivoroid-bound everything. High-gloss lacquer finish to the body and the neck, gold tuners, bone nut, pearl dot bridge pins.
Modified V neck profile with 1-3/4" nut is ridiculously comfortable and adds to the playing experience. But where this guitar really shines (even more so that its looks), is in its tone. The guitar is as loud and evenly voiced as you'd want, making it an exceptionally versatile instrument. The bass is very present, yet no overpowering; and players with a proper pick attack would find this guitar an amazing flatpicker. Under a lighter fingersytle touch the notes bloom from the soundhole with richness and balance.
Set up in shop, and in nearly new condition, there are no faults of any kind to tell you about.
