c.1924 Martin Style 0 Uke

No Serial #. Martin introduced its budget Style 0 ukulele in 1922 amidst an era of slumping guitar sales and skyrocketing demand for ukuleles. At $10, it was an inexpensive instrument, and it was the right thing at the right time at the right price, and sales were exceptional. Martin didn't bother with serial numbers after mid 1916, so no Style 0 has a serial number, but with this instrument's wooden tuning pegs we can date it to the period between 1922 and 1926.

A very lightly built ukulele, this Style 0 is among the best sounding sopranos we've yet encountered. It's full, loud, punchy, and bold -- and it's a heck of a lot of fun to play.

The instrument is in very fine condition and is 100% original. There is a hairline crack in the back that's been cleanly glued and is very hard to detect. Otherwise, the instrument is without any issues other than some playwear to its top.

Set-up in our shop, it plays cleanly and well. The tuners hold their pitch and are relatively easy to use.

With its original case, this is a lovely package.
