2013 Martin 00-28 Custom-Shop “Authentic”

If Martin were to design a 00-28 Authentic 1935 it might very well be designed just like this guitar. It’s a 2013 Custom Shop build and just about every bit as ‘Authentic’ as the company’s other Authentic models. We’re talking hide glue, T-bar, under-finish pickguard, 30’s bridge and spacing, 30’s modified V neck carve with long volute, headstock stamp, and gloss finish; Waverly tuners, and fossil ivory nut, saddle, and pins. Really light top bracing with GE style scalloping, high-grade red spruce top with gorgeous 30’s style sunburst lacquer finish, and some great looking Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Ivoroid bindings, pre-war style 28 herringbone, backstrip, purflings, and fingerboard inlays, and old style script logo decal.

The guitar sounds incredible, with a surprisingly big and open bass register, full bodied highs, and a mid range that’s woody and rich. It’s a top-tier fingerstyle guitar and, like the best of them, takes to a flatpick beautifully. Beyond that, it’s just gorgeous, which makes you want to play it even more. The 00 size and vintage neck carve and string spacing make for a real comfortable feel.

The guitar is in excellent condition but for a small assortment of fine scratches and a few minor dings, the most noticeable of which is on the side of the headstock’s front. Set-up here at Folkway, the guitar plays beautifully, with a comfortably low fingerstyle action.

A model we wish Martin would put into regular production. If this one is any indication, we suspect it would be a good seller!
