1934 Martin R-18

Serial # 56997. With its shaded-top pre-war style 18 looks, 00-sized body, and wonderfully comfortable '34 carve rounded neck, the bar-fretted R-18 is a whole lot of golden-era Martin for the dollars. And, although not anything like a flat-topped 00-18 in tone, the small bodied arch-top has a beautiful, balanced, and focused jazzy voice.

A gorgeous example in remarkably good condition, the guitar is completely original and offers perfect playability. Original bar frets are level and dressed well, neck angle is excellent, original bridge, pickguard, tailpiece, nut, tuners, and finish are all intact, and the guitar is almost without any repairs. There is a very small/tight side crack by the pickguard mounting bracket, some case-caused wear on the upper treble side, and repairs to the Grover tuner buttons (solder was added at the base of each button, presumably to stop them from spinning on their shafts). No top or back cracks, brace repairs, or neck issues. Set-up in our shop, the guitar plays easily and comfortably. Top arch radius is perfect, original finish throughout.

00-sized flat-backed body of mahogany and spruce, black binding, 4-layered top purflings, segmented f-holes. Nickel-plated engraved tailpiece, adjustable rosewood bridge, tortoise-celluloid pickguard, ebony nut, C.F. Martin headstock logo and stamp on the headstock's back-side, clipped-plate Grover tuners.

Rounded neck carve with 1-3/4" width at the nut, 24.9" scale, 16" radius. 2-1/4" string spacing at the bridge.

With original chipboard case
