1919 Gibson F-2
Serial # 49310. The roundhole Gibson F models built in the 'teens and 'twenties are always show-stoppers here at Folkway, and this 1919 F-2 is on par with the finest we've ever offered for sale. The instrument is completely original and in knock-out gorgeous condition. The frets show light wear, and our in-shop set up has made the mandolin play as nicely as it looks.
As is so common with these instruments, the headstock scroll has been repaired, albeit virtually invisibly, and there is a minor top crack, about 1' long, by the scroll. Neither of these issues is of significant concern to us. The finish is original and in beautiful condition throughout the instrument, with a seamless spot touch-up on the headstock.
A lovely sounding oval hole F, with beautiful mids, a fairly open voice and more cut and projection than an A model. 1-5/16' nut, 13-7/8' scale.
