2013 Gibson F-9
Serial # 30409011. The post-flood Gibson F-9 is widely regarded as one of Gibson's best new offerings. The F-9 is a beautifully built mandolin that is simply but tastefully appointed, and features all the tone and feel of the much more expensive F5. This example is barely a year old and has already developed a deep tonal complexity.
Carved spruce top with ivoroid binding, unbound figured maple back and sides; figured maple neck with classic scroll headstock, rosewood overlay and pearl Gibson inlay. Unradiussed rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot markers and 20 frets; ebony adjustable bridge, nickel-plated engraved tailpiece and matching tuning machines. Satin lacquer finish with sunburst on every surface. Beautiful color, nicely applied thin finish.
The F-9 is in nearly-new condition but shows a few very small dings on the binding edges. No fretwear or other finish damage to speak of, and the set-up and playability are spot-on.
Dark and open, with excellent chop and very musical mids. A bluegrass F with a little bit more warmth, overtone, and responsiveness than the norm. An excellent sounding mandolin.
