1917 Gibson A-1

Serial # 37970, FON 110008. Certainly among the cleanest and most perfectly preserved Gibson A mandolins we've ever had in the store, it's amazing to consider that this one is 5 years short of it's 100th birthday. It's a remarkable instrument. Carved spruce top and birch back and sides, ivoroid bound ebony fingerboard, ivoroid bound top and soundhole. Pearl headstock logo, original tuners, pickguard and tailpiece. Original bridge will be found in the case pocket, the instrument's newer adjustable bridge is professionally fit. The bone nut is the mandolin's only non-original component.

No cracks, damage, or repairs. Perfect top arch, very little playwear, and near-perfect original finish.

A very open and warm A; with more depth and sonic character than is the norm for this model. Subtle harmonic overtones, sweet trebles. An excellent sounding instrument that will become even better with some playing time under it's bridge.

Nut width of 1-7/32", scale of 13-7/8"

With original hardshell case
