1997 Apitius Grand Classic F-5

A tremendous example of a hand-crafted F-5 style mandolin. Oliver Apitius' F-5's are highly regarded bluegrass instruments, and this was Apitius' top-of-the-line model while he was an active builder. The F-5 features German spruce top, highly flamed maple back, rims and neck; ebony fingerboard, bridge and pickguard; pearl nut, gold Schaller tuners with MOP buttons, and a stunning abalone floral motif on the headstock. The plates are masterfully and evenly carved in the traditional pattern; and the instrument features a rich Cremona nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It is in excellent condition and unmodified but for a scoop in the fingerboard extension. It has developed a rich voice, with clear projection, articulation and sustain. This is a master-grade instrument. With Calton case.
